BFG by lpeters BFG by lpeters
Another personal piece.

Update 5/25/13: Thank you for the DD and all of the comments!! In an effort to answer a lot of the questions that have come up, I decided to answer here:

Is it 3D? Nope, all of my work is painted in Photoshop CS3.

Textures? I generally use the basic hard and soft brushes. On the skin I used a speckled sort of brush for pores, etc. Apart from that the rest of it was hand painted.

How long did it take? I don't have a lot of experience with beards, especially close up so figuring that out took some time. Amidst other projects, this piece took me about 2 weeks to complete.

Is it the Big Friendly Giant? It was my inspiration most definitely, but I didn't want to copy directly from the book. This is my own interpretation of a BFG. :)

This just blows my mind (O_o) just the details on that giant (skin ridges and blood vains running on the hand) is remarkable! Wish I could be that detailed or even had just a small amount of patience to do something like this!!!!

YOU ARE TRUELY AN AMAZING ARTIST :D

hey I was wondering how do you make it look so realistic always when I try to make somthing it looks somehow a bit cartoon, especially the clothing. I hope you could give me a tip about how to make it look better?

The simplest answer I could give you is to study what things look like in real life or in photographs.  Compare your work with that and ask your self "why does mine look different?"  I do this all the time and usually it comes down to correcting the lighting, colours and values.
